What Is The Best Time To Take Multivitamins?

Many people ask what is the best time of day to take your supplements, including the Health Evolution P.L.A.N. (Pure Live Active Nutrition) formulas with YTE®, and multivitamins.

Of course, always take your supplement according to the directions on the label.

Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble, while the B complex of vitamins and vitamin C are water-soluble.

The fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K should be taken with food, ideally containing some fat, and are usually absorbed in fat globules that travel through the lymphatic system of the small intestines and into the general blood circulation within the body, before being stored in body tissues.

Other supplements can be taken with or without food.

The most important thing of all is to remember to actually take your supplements!

Supplements only work if you take them - and take them regularly.

They also need to be taken at the recommended clinical dose.

But what do I need in terms of Vitamins and Minerals?  

Humans did not evolve eating processed food. We are designed to eat fresh, local, organic, biodynamic, seasonal food. For millions of years, throughout our evolution, that's what we've eaten.

It's only in the last hundred years that our food has become highly processed.

The food industry had worked hard to convince us to eat the cheapest, highest profit margin, most addictive foods.

Most modern fruits and vegetables are grown to increase their sugar content, not their nutrient value.  So they taste better to us. As a result, most of the common fruits and vegetables are artificially high in fructose (plant sugars) and lower in key nutrients.

Plants have also been developed to grow faster. So even if there were minerals in the soil (which there aren't in conventional farmland soil - studies prove massive mineral deficiencies in millions of acres of farmland), the plants grow faster and uptake less.

When plants contain fewer nutrients, the animals that eat these plants are also malnourished. 

As just one example, a study published in the Journal of Nutrition and Health found copper levels in the UK have dropped by 90% in dairy, 55% in meat and 76% in vegetables.

Fresh, organic food is not always possible. Even when you can find organic foods, they aren’t necessarily better.

Studies show that even organic foods can be low in nutrients when the "organic" food is processed and not fresh.

Fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, grown organically at home or locally in well-fertilised soil and freshly harvested are going to be higher in nutrients than store-bought versions. If you can’t do that every day, you need supplements.

Reasons for taking supplements include soil depletion, food not being fresh, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, bactericides, baits, insecticides, lures, rodenticides, repellents, GMOs...

Just as all food is not created equal, so it's only worthwhile taking premium supplements.

Zinc is important of course but oversupply can be problematic. You might get enough from your diet, when you include foods like sesame and pumpkin seeds, tofu, tempeh, soybeans, kidney beans, black beans, garbanzo beans, lentils, chickpeas, peanuts, most nuts including cashews and almonds, quinoa, oatmeal ... there are a lot of choices.
 
Vitamin C: get it from cherries, rosehip juice, kiwi fruit, citrus of course, lychees, strawberries, persimmon, papaya, plus peppers, guavas, herbs including thyme, parsley, and greens like broccoli and kale.
 
Magnesium: swim in the ocean! (Seawater is rich in magnesium), and take an Epsom Salts bath if you feel you need more. Also of course include magnesium-rich foods including

Black beans
Bran
Brown rice
Cashews
Chocolate (real, dark chocolate)
Edamame
Kidney beans
Oatmeal
Peanut butter
Peanuts
Potato with skin
Pumpkin

You'll see several of these foods overlap, for example, black beans, cherries, and oatmeal are good sources of both zinc and magnesium.
Of course, to ensure maximum nutrition, aim as much as possible for SOUL food (seasonal, organic, unprocessed, local) where you can - and remember frozen fruit and veggies often contain more nutrients because they're harvested when ripe and frozen within hours - and frozen can be much cheaper than fresh. So if you're buying blueberries for your smoothies or pies, frozen blueberries can be much cheaper and can even be better for you.
